The Gladstone Connect design involved connecting the Kensington/Hillhurst community drainage improvements to the existing 7 Street Trunk in Sunnyside to help relieve the existing drainage systems.
The design included flow control points to manage and ensure that water being redirected from Hillhurst Kensington doesn’t inundate Sunnyside.
The Upper Plateau Separation project in Hillhurst Sunnyside consists of installing a larger, dedicated pipe that will collect and move stormwater from the communities on top of the hill directly to the Bow River, bypassing Sunnyside, to help prevent flooding in the community. It’s one of several community drainage improvements happening in the area. The infrastructure will also include a filtration system to help stop pollutants, like grit and oils, from going into the river.
Construction started in November 2021 and is anticipated to be complete by late fall 2025.
We're investing in Sunnyside, Hillhurst and along the Memorial Park Corridor to increase flood resiliency and create spaces that enhance the connection with the river, community and natural environment, while commemorating our heritage.
