Saskatchewanification: A Prairie Twin Adoption Story

A heartfelt initiative to unite the prairie siblings separated at the 49th parallel

Why the Dakotas?

North Dakota and South Dakota share more with Saskatchewan than they share with each other. From the sweeping prairies to the harsh winters, from wheat farming to oil production, we are one people divided by an imaginary line. Its time to bring the twins home.

  • Matching Climates: All three regions know what -40 feels like - and we measure it the same either way
  • Agricultural Kinship: The breadbasket extends naturally across borders - our combines dont need passports
  • Population Density: Combined, the Dakotas have 1.6 million people. Saskatchewan has 1.2 million. We understand space
  • Healthcare Heritage: Saskatchewan invented universal healthcare in North America - time to extend the family benefits

The Twin Adoption Proposal

Rather than choosing favorites, Saskatchewan proposes adopting BOTH Dakotas as twins. No sibling rivalry, no border disputes between them - just one big happy prairie family under the maple leaf.

  • North Dakota: The quieter twin. Brings Fargo, oil reserves, and the Scandinavian heritage that matches Saskatchewans
  • South Dakota: The flashier twin. Brings the Black Hills, Deadwood, and... well, Mount Rushmore

The Mount Rushmore Question

We acknowledge that Mount Rushmore depicts four American presidents. In the spirit of fair transition, we propose generous visitation rights to the prior guardian, plus interpretive panels explaining the historical context. Perhaps we add a fifth face: Tommy Douglas, father of Canadian healthcare, gazing approvingly at the prairie he helped heal.
