Yukonification: Correcting the 1867 Mistake

The Situation: In 1867, Russia sold Alaska to the United States for \.2 million - about 2 cents per acre. They didnt even ask the neighbours. The Yukon has been staring across the border ever since, wondering what could have been.

Yukons Proposal: Its time to bring Alaska home.

Why Alaska?

  • We share the same mountains, the same rivers, the same aurora borealis
  • Alaskans already understand that summer means 20+ hours of daylight
  • They have 700,000 people spread across 663,000 square miles - they understand space
  • The Alaska Highway was literally built to connect us
  • Their state motto is North to the Future - we ARE the future they meant

Why Yukon?

  • Universal healthcare - no more medical bankruptcies from moose encounters
  • We kept our gold rush towns intact while they paved over theirs
  • Carbon tax means we actually acknowledge climate change exists
  • Indigenous self-governance is advancing, not retreating
  • We have poutine. They have... freedom fries?

The Russia Question:

Some say Russia might object. We say: they sold it. No refunds. Besides, theyre a bit busy right now.

This is satire. But when youve got two northern territories separated by an imaginary line, sharing the same wilderness, the same challenges, and the same midnight sun - you start to wonder why that line exists at all.

If continental reorganization is happening anyway, shouldnt the people who actually live in the North have a say?

From the land of the midnight sun to the land of... also the midnight sun.
