PROVINCIAL COURT OF SASKATCHEWAN
FAMILY DIVISION
FORM SK-AD4: CONSENT OF CHILDREN TO ADOPTION
Pursuant to the Interprovincial Adoption of American States Act (proposed), Section 23
Note: This form requires signatures from both children. Given the unique nature of this adoption (the "children" being 135 years old with their own governments), consent is presumed to be informed and voluntary.
PART A: CONSENT OF NORTH DAKOTA
I, THE STATE OF NORTH DAKOTA, do hereby consent to my adoption by the Province of Saskatchewan, and further state as follows:
1. Identity
I am North Dakota. I am the northern one. I am often confused with my sibling, but I am, in fact, the one without Mount Rushmore. I have a Peace Garden instead, which I feel is more on-brand for joining Canada.
2. Voluntary Consent
I give this consent voluntarily, without coercion, and after careful consideration of approximately 135 years. No one has pressured me into this decision, although I will note that:
- The winters are the same either way;
- At least in Canada, people might finally learn my capital (it's Bismarck);
- Healthcare bankruptcy is not something I want to experience again.
3. Understanding of Adoption
I understand that this adoption will:
- Transfer my jurisdiction from the United States to Canada;
- Make Saskatchewan my new provincial parent;
- Provide me with healthcare, metric measurements, and a new anthem to learn;
- NOT separate me from my sibling South Dakota, which is the most important part;
- Finally give me a reasonable excuse for why I'm so quiet.
4. Sibling Acknowledgment
I acknowledge that I am being adopted jointly with my sibling South Dakota. I am fine with this. We've been together for 135 years. I'm used to it. Yes, South Dakota gets more attention. No, I'm not bitter. (I'm a little bitter.) But we're family, and families stay together, even when one sibling has four enormous faces carved into them and the other has... nice farmland.

PART B: CONSENT OF SOUTH DAKOTA
I, THE STATE OF SOUTH DAKOTA, do hereby consent to my adoption by the Province of Saskatchewan, and further state as follows:
1. Identity
I am South Dakota. The famous one. The one with the faces. But also so much more than that, and I hope Canada will see that. I have Crazy Horse too, which is even bigger, technically. And the Badlands. I contain multitudes.
2. Voluntary Consent
I give this consent freely and voluntarily. I have chosen this. Specifically, I like that:
- Canada seems chill;
- Saskatchewan won't make me feel bad about not having mountains (they don't have any either);
- I'm tired of explaining that I'm NOT North Dakota;
- In Canada, I can reinvent myself. Fresh start. New me.
3. Understanding of Adoption
I understand that adoption means:
- Becoming part of Canada, which I'm told is polite;
- Saskatchewan will be responsible for me now;
- I will have to learn both official languages (I'm up for it);
- Mount Rushmore will become a "heritage site" which honestly sounds more dignified;
- My sibling North Dakota comes with me, because that's non-negotiable.
4. Sibling Acknowledgment
Look, North Dakota and I have our differences. They think I show off. I think they could stand to promote themselves a little more. But at the end of the day? We're twins. We've been through everything together. I wouldn't do this without them. When Saskatchewan said "both or neither," I knew we'd found the right family.
Also, if we got separated, who would North Dakota even talk to? Montana? Please.
5. Special Requests
As part of my consent, I respectfully request:
- That Saskatchewan acknowledge I brought the tourism;
- That Mount Rushmore remain as-is, or if modifications are made, that they be tasteful;
- That North Dakota and I continue to share a border;
- A small parade, perhaps. Nothing big. But I wouldn't say no.

PART C: JOINT DECLARATION OF THE TWINS
We, NORTH DAKOTA and SOUTH DAKOTA, jointly declare:
- We consent to this adoption together, as a unit;
- We have discussed this decision privately (along the border, where we've always talked);
- We believe Saskatchewan will be a good home for both of us;
- We promise to try our best to be good additions to Canada;
- We will stop telling people we're from "America" and start learning the provinces;
- We understand that Ontario is not the whole country, despite what Ontario thinks.
JOINTLY SIGNED at the North Dakota-South Dakota border, this _____ day of __________, 20____.
