Bill C-201: An Act to amend the Canada Health Act (mental, addictions and substance use health services) Sponsor: Mr. Johns. Private Member's Bill. First Reading: May 29, 2025. LEGISLATIVE CONTENT: Section 1(1): Expands definition of "insured health services" in section 2 of the Canada Health Act to include "mental, addictions and substance use health services provided to insured persons." Section 1(2): New definition: "mental, addictions and substance use health services includes mental, addictions and substances use health services provided in community settings." Section 2: Amends Section 9 (comprehensiveness) to require provinces to insure health services "including those provided in community settings." EFFECT: Forces provinces to cover mental health, addiction, and substance use services as insured services under the CHA, including community-based settings. Provinces failing to comply risk losing Canada Health Transfer funding.
