Winter Warmth Project: Durable Workwear Coveralls and Bib Overalls

Purpose
This note adds a durable workwear-coverall lane to the Winter Warmth Project. The target is not fashion outerwear. The target is practical winter protection for low-income workers, outdoor labourers, construction workers, delivery workers, yard crews, and people who need rugged cold-weather outerwear at a price far below premium workwear brands.
Research question: Can CanuckDUCK design or source a function-first winter coverall or bib-overall system that prioritizes warmth, durability, repairability, and affordability over style?
Why coveralls and bibs matter
- Whole-body warmth: coveralls and insulated bibs reduce drafts at the waist and protect the lower body better than a jacket alone.
- Work compatibility: many outdoor jobs require kneeling, bending, lifting, carrying, climbing, and long exposure to wind and cold.
- Durability over style: workwear succeeds when seams, knees, cuffs, zippers, and shell fabric survive hard use.
- Loose sizing is acceptable: because these are outerwear layers, exact fashion fit matters less than range coverage, mobility, and layering room.
- Low-income relevance: workers may need serious winter gear but not have the income to buy high-priced branded workwear.

Design principles
- Durability before style: abrasion, seam strength, knees, cuffs, and zipper life are more important than appearance.
- Warmth and wind blocking: insulation and wind resistance are core value, especially at the waist, back, knees, and chest.
- Repairability: high-wear parts should be patchable or replaceable, especially zippers, knees, cuffs, straps, and closures.
- Generous sizing: use broad size ranges suitable for layering; exact fashion fit is not the goal.
- Simple patterning: fewer complex panels can lower manufacturing cost and reduce seam-failure points.
- High-wear reinforcement: consider extra fabric at knees, seat, cuffs, and pocket edges if cost permits.
- Low branding: the garment should look like practical workwear, not promotional clothing.
